Installation

MRC Tuner Rom is a single desktop application: after installation it needs no server, no account and no internet connection.

Requirements

Component Requirement
Operating system Windows 10/11, macOS 11+, Linux (glibc 2.28+)
Memory 4 GB (8 GB recommended for large ROM projects)
Disk ~400 MB for the app, ~90 MB for ChecksumDLL, more for projects
Graphics OpenGL 3.3 or a software rasteriser

Building from source

Windows (MinGW)

cmake -S . -B build -G "MinGW Makefiles" `
  -DCMAKE_PREFIX_PATH="D:/Qt/6.8.3/mingw_64" `
  -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release
cmake --build build --target mtr -j 8
windeployqt --release build/mtr.exe

Windows (MSVC)

cmake -S . -B build -DCMAKE_PREFIX_PATH="C:/Qt/6.8.3/msvc2022_64" -A x64
cmake --build build --config Release --target mtr -j 8

Linux

cmake -S . -B build -DCMAKE_PREFIX_PATH=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/cmake/Qt6
cmake --build build --target mtr -j 8
./build/mtr

macOS

cmake -S . -B build -DCMAKE_PREFIX_PATH="$(brew --prefix qt)"
cmake --build build --target mtr -j 8
open build/mtr.app

On the first configure, CMake downloads and builds the Qt Advanced Docking System from source, so the first build needs network access.

Running

After building there is a single file to launch:

Platform File
Windows build/mtr.exe
Linux build/mtr
macOS build/mtr.app

On Windows the Qt runtime DLLs must sit next to mtr.exe; windeployqt takes care of that in one command.

Checksum modules (Windows only)

ChecksumDLL/ ships 148 32-bit ECU checksum modules. A 64-bit application cannot load them directly, so they run through the checksumhelper.exe helper process.

The modules depend on the old Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 (x86) runtime. Without it the modules fail to load; the application says so in plain text and only the built-in MED17/EDC17 verification remains available.

Legacy dependencies such as Mfc80.dll, Msvcr80.dll, Msvcp80.dll and gmp.dll ship inside ChecksumDLL/; copy the folder as a whole when you redistribute.

First run

On the first launch the application:

  1. shows the welcome page (new project, open, settings, manual),
  2. creates its data folder — user data lives in the operating system's standard location under MRC / MRC Tuner Rom,
  3. loads the default MRC theme (dark background, green and orange accents).

The ? button in the header opens this manual; the Language menu switches the interface language.

Workspace layout

Window ▸ Save Workspace Layout stores the panel arrangement and Window ▸ Load Workspace Layout restores it — useful when you work with several project windows.

Updating

The application does not update itself. Fetch a new version from the repository and rebuild, or overwrite the installed copy. Always check your project files before updating: an older version's .mtrp files open in a newer version, but the reverse is not guaranteed.
